Exercise and the never-ending Excuse List

image

We can make excuses or we can make changes!  I’ve been typically falling into the excuse makers camp but reading Nick Pinealt’s Truth About Fat Burning Foods changed that for me.  He really opened my eyes to the scams in the food industry and gave clear action steps to follow to change the things in my grocery cart.  This no nonsense approach to eating the right foods for the right reasons started a really good chain reaction for me.  So I’m feeling smug and a bit thinner from following his plan.  Then I see this picture of a mother of 3.  Maybe you’ve seen the photo.  She is absolutely lean and sculpted in her workout gear and looking just like everyone would like to look.  She’s pictured with her 8 mth old, 2 and 3 year old.  Just saying, well if I can look like this after 3 babies, what’s your excuse?  OUCH!  I have to tell you as mother of 5, I was pretty offended by it.

This photo can either just really tick you off or perhaps motivate you to get off the couch and do something about it.  We all have our very own excuses and most of them are pretty good.

  • I can’t do this exercise because of my health condition.
  • I don’t have that kind of time (certainly can’t miss those 2-3 hours of television tonight)
  • I hurt myself so I can’t work out
  • I can’t afford to buy health foods
  • I just am not motivated and keep putting off getting started
  • I like the way I look just fine

So if this mother of three can look like this and it doesn’t take her hours a day at the gym, maybe I could get moving and make a change for the better.  Do I want to feel better, look better and live longer? Do I want to show myself and the world that I can do this?

Then, think about the fact that her workouts take only 15 minutes a day to perform…and the time excuse doesn’t really hold water anymore.  I’ve always been a huge advocate of getting started. Make a small change which may start a positive chain reaction in your world.  Start with one thing, change it up, try something new, set a goal, and then take action!  It will be a good thing if only you just do it!  I’m all for coming up with the best and simplest way to get where I’m going.

So I’m curious when you see the picture of this lean mom, what reaction does it provoke in you?

Healthy Blessings,
