There is an inherent pressure for us to forgive. It is considered an ideal. However, the greatest fallacy of ideals comes about when we push a process based on its ideal rather than its merit or legitimacy. The fact is, we are deeply intelligent beings here to live our truth authentically and to the fullest extent . We are here to soar into our “beingness” and create infinite variations of our truthful divine expression.
Every moment is a chance for us to be completely “who we are”. So then, what, pray tell, do we do with anger? This is a profound question. The place where we have to begin is to accept the validity of our anger and pain before it can be transformed. We have to give credit to the part of ourselves that is saying “something in my life needs to change so I can fully express myself”.
Anger is powerful tool. Like all powerful tools–sexuality, femininity, the body–anger has been suppressed in our world. Imagine a world where we all spoke our truth, never settled for second best; never took or felt offense. Imagine if we were all just being authentic, and when things were not in integrity with our love and bliss, we were given the space to express ourselves and architect a change with the support of everyone around. Wouldn’t that be great?
Currently we live in a way where every time we feel a discordance with our truth and start to express it, we FEAR that we will be viewed as angry, unevolved, unloving, “rough around the edges”, having “low vibe bad energy”, and all sorts of social stigma. We are encouraged to carefully and artfully suppress the intelligence of our feelings, or we will be viewed as “controlling”or “aggressive”. Especially within spiritual circles, it is considered “falling out of your equanimity”.
I believe that equanimity is a beautiful concept, but when used correctly, you see the beauty of every aspect of your being. Equanimity to me is when you are in alignment with all your feelings. The false meaning of equanimity is this place where you are just happy all the time…exemplifying the utmost politeness, kindness and love in the face of EVERYTHING, even things that are in deep conflict with your truth. Is being able to withhold REACTION to corruption or discordance the highest form of mastery? Or is it the highest from of cowardice?
Global politics is the macrocosm of our own accepted human politics. Just as we justify our lies and suppressions to avoid causing ripple, our government and politicians expose us to the same standard of deception in the name of diplomacy. It’s a standard, that we as awakening beings are setting out to reform, all while still juggling our ancient programming of deep inner judgment of coming across as being angry.
Here is my simple solution: Take the time to understand the source of your anger. Determine if it is coming from a place of fear or disharmony with your truth. If it is your truth, allow the feeling of anger to energize your quest becoming more of who you are. Do not let yourself or others pressure you into forgiveness until you are really ready to forgive. I don’t actually think that YOU can forgive anyone. Forgiveness is a process. It simply happens. In fact, it is inevitable. If we purely and organically give ourselves time to process every feeling of anger, hurt, and pain, there are two natural outcomes. Firstly, the discordant energy transforms. This is the magic of the alchemical energy present in the belly fire of anger. No guts, no glory. Secondly, this will naturally result in forgiveness. If your intentions are right, the divine purpose of lighting this fire is to create greater harmony. So really, we hate the game, not the player. So once the game is destroyed but your truth, you transcend the need to forgive. Hence, I say forgiveness is inevitable. It’s a natural progression.
Contrary to popular belief, every time you go through honoring your feelings and power, you do yourself, your opponent, and the world at large a favor. With every truth expressed, with every battle won, love is the great victor. Through your courage and authenticity, a little bit of dense matter in our collective universe is released. Slowly but surely feelings and sensations will be heard, received, and given its proper standing on planet earth and beyond.
