Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic method of whitening teeth and boosting oral health. There are quite a few studies that prove its effectiveness and many people swear by it.

I have been doing this every day for a year now and definitely can see and feel the difference. My teeth are whiter and have a smoother touch. No more plaque and my gums aren’t bleeding anymore when I brush my teeth.

1.    Whiten Teeth

In just a few weeks your teeth will be much brighter and whiter without the need of chemical-laden whitening toothpastes or strips.

2.    Reduce Bad Breath (Halitosis)

A bad breath can be a really embarrassing social issues. It is caused by gasses and chemicals produced by mouth bacteria. Oil pulling helps to get rid of these bacteria to reduce a bad breath.

Oil pulling reduces the count of Streptococcus mutans. These bacteria contribute to tooth decay and plaque buildup.

How Does It Work?

Oil pulling is super easy and best done in the morning before you eat or drink anything. Swish a spoonful of coconut oil in your mouth for 20 minutes. Spit it out. Rinse well with water (warm water works best) and brush as normal. To avoid clogged drains it is best to spit it out in the trash can instead of your sink.  DO NOT SWALLOW the oil as it is packed with toxins and bacteria.

You can pull oil with any oil of your liking, but I prefer to use organic extra virgin coconut oil for its added antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and it has a milder taste compared to other oils.

It is normal that the first few times your gag reflex kicks in. If this happens, start with 5 minutes and work your way up to 20 minutes. Why 20 minutes? Studies have shown that 20 minutes is just enough to break through plaque and bacteria, but not long enough for your body to reabsorb the toxins which are pulled into the oil.

To save some time I pull oil while I’m in the shower or reading the morning newspaper.
