White Sugar…… The Toxic Tale Continues…..


Welcome back to our “tea-time” toxic tale about….. our sweet little sidekick, WHITE SUGAR. Let me start off by stating that this is a very hard topic to deal with in one’s life. We are so accustomed to using white sugar on a daily basis that we are likely not even aware of how much we even consume.

According to research, Americans on average, eat between 2 and 3 pounds of refined sugar a week! That number shocked me… my oldest was only 4 pounds when she was born!! My point is that including refined sugar in our daily diet is a habit that is going to take time to break.

Hard Habit to Break

Habits are extremely hard to break, especially when it is hidden in so many of the foods we use daily…

  • Ketchup
  • pasta sauce
  • peanut butter
  • and most cereals!

As a first step, commit to cutting out the adding of sugar to anything you used to put it in. For me this includes my tea and the occasional bowl of plain cereal. As that becomes comfortable move on to cutting it out altogether. But before making such a huge lifestyle change it is important to understand the “why” behind this decision.

Did You Know? Sugar Weakens the Immune System?!

According to Ann Louise Gittleman M.S. C.N.S, eating sugar prevents white blood cells from fighting germs for hours. She goes on to state that this white toxin prevents the body from making as many antibodies, and we all know that these proteins are what keeps us healthy enough to fight off all those nasty “invaders.”

Sugar Hinders the Absorption of at Least One Antioxidant

Another reason to kick this sweet addiction is that it interferes with the absorption of vitamin C. This wonderful little vitamin is responsible for warding off the common cold, among its other jobs. The problem is that it’s basic chemical make-up is so similar to that of sugar that a cell only lets one in at a time.

What does this science mean to you and me? Well, simply put, if there is more sugar around, your cells are not absorbing the vitamin C that is critically needed to stay healthy!! So all that extra vitamin C you take when a cold comes knocking at our door is just being wasted.

These are some VERY convincing reasons to throw all the refined foods out of your house TODAY! But what do we replace this white poison with? That is a very good question for another time.
