The new trend is detox. Detox smoothies, detox water, detox baths, anything to detox your body of unwanted things. Heck, if you’re not a fan of technology, they have a technology detox, too. The name of the game these days is to be healthier. Even if your a health God, there is always a way to be healthier. Detox drinks and recipes started with natural foods that function with your body’s organs to improve daily tasks.

Homemade recipes litter the internet waiting to help improve your health. You can start by detoxifying your entire body or if you are having trouble with a single organ, start there. There are recipes for food, drink and other practices for every part of your body and likely your lifestyle. We want to share a way to cleanse your liver. Your liver is responsible for producing the chemicals your body needs to function, it also is a detoxes the body naturally, according to Medicine Net. So if your liver is full of toxins, it would have a pretty hard time doing it’s job getting rid of toxins. Your liver is also extremely important to the body because it helps store vitamins and chemicals the body uses. So it’s important to take care of it.

When you cleanse your body you are getting rid of chemicals, toxins, waste and anything else that may be hurting your body instead of helping. These things get there because of everyday life. Maybe you have a dirty liver because last week you ate something bad or you haven’t been living the healthiest, who knows, things just happen and it’s important to take care of your body to keep it working well.

When the liver goes through a cleanse like many healthy habits, it will cause you to feel energized. It may also decrease belly fat, which is always a plus. The reason why this might happen is because belly fat is the storehouse of toxins the liver and gut expelled, and is not used by the body. Liver cleanses will also help prevent gallstones and cleanse your bowels, according to an article found on Health Shortcut.

Some common foods that cleanse the liver are beets, turmeric, ginger, lemons, apples, avocado, oranges, parsley, cabbage, spinach, cucumber, carrots, green tea and grapefruit. Three recipes are listed below which combine some of these foods for a deep liver cleanse. Each recipe has specific directions on how often too consume the food for the best results.

Ingredients:

1/8 tsp. turmeric powder

1 cup milk or water

Honey or sugar

Directions:

1: Place 1 cup of milk or water into a small pot, use low heat to slowly bring it to the point just before boiling. Milk creates a richer tasting tea, but it contains more calories than water.

2: Add 1/8 tsp. of turmeric powder to the hot liquid and stir. Sweeten it as you like with honey or sugar. Keep in mind more sweeter adds calories.

3: Drink two to three cups of Turmeric Tea every day, having at least one cup before bed. The liver is more active at night and the tea will compliment the liver’s nightly activity.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup of green tea, cooled

Juice of 1/2 lemon

1 blended banana

Directions:

1: Boil 1/2 a cup of water and add green tea bag. Set aside to cool or refrigerate.

2: Blend banana in blender and add juice from half a lemon. After green tea cooled add to blended mixture and mix together.

3: Drink two times a week or more.

Rainbow Slaw with Sweet Tahini Dressing: Found at healthyhappylife.com

Ingredients: Rainbow Slaw

3 cups shredded or grated red cabbage

1 cup grated carrots (about 1 large carrot)

3/4 cup grated cucumber with skin

1/2 cup sweet onion, thinly sliced

1/4 cup grated sweet onion

1 1/4 cups finely chopped flat-leaf parsley with stems

1/2 cup shelled organic hemp seeds

optional: chopped walnuts, pecans, rasins or dried cranberries

Ingredients: Sweet Tahini Dressing

2 tbsp tahini

2 tbsp grade B maple syrup

2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

1 small lemon, juiced

1/2 tsp garlic powder

salt and pepper to taste

Note: Store dressing well, aim for a thin pourable dressing. If the dressing is dried up or chalky add oil.

Directions:

1: Toss all the grated and chopped vegetables into large bowl. Stir.

2: For the dressing, combine all the ingredients and whisk until creamy.

3: Add dressing to slaw and eat right away.

4: Top with avocado or nuts.

There are many recipes out there to detox your body of chemicals and unwanted substances. It is an important practice to participate in. Doing a detox once a week will improve the way your body feels and could highly improve your quality of life.
