The Road Less Traveled

Over the past century, millions and millions of people have been heading down a road.  The road is now well trodden with years of habits that are deeply ingrained in their belief system as “normal.”   This road is not necessarily of their choosing but rather the results of billions spent in well crafted advertising by Corporate Food Giants and Big Pharma.  These giants give incentives and discounts for their products.  Incentives to doctors and discount coupons for people to save money on their purchases of processed foods.  In a society that has also grown into financial challenges as well, saving pennies becomes part of the driving force that impacts their decisions.  On the path through these stores, they spend most of their time traveling the isles where the advertised foods and coupons discounts can be found.   The road less traveled is never a consideration.

Coupons for organic produce don’t exist here in this Matrix.

At the end of each isle is a tower of products “on sale” dumped in bins to be grabbed and added to the rest of their cart, that is already overflowing with dead food.  An hour has passed and they look hungry and tired while leaning on their carts filled with processed and frozen starches and sugars.  Dangling off the sides, I see cases of diet sodas as if these are going to offset the junk.

People just stand there not knowing which ones to choose and which to leave on the shelf.

In the delicate balance of the physical body we have approximately 50 trillion cells.  Years of heading down this road “day in and day out”, leads to a state of imbalance and breakdown of our biochemistry and bio electricity.  At first- we discover a small challenge, maybe our blood pressure is a little off.  Our doctor writes a prescription for a pill to address this symptom.

Together is it possible that all these are part of the problem, rather than the solution.

On the road of neglect, we consume chips, dips, candy, fried, microwaved GMO popcorn, all washed down with jugs of diet sodas.  Hours are spent in front of the TV with our favorite shows interlaced with advertisements.

If we’re lucky, we have a friend who suggests we might want to consider a few changes in our diet.  Reality is- the brainwashing from the bombardment of advertising, coupons and addictions stand in the way of our friends suggestions.  We enjoy these palatable foods we have been accustomed to eating.  “It wouldn’t be available if it was dangerous for my health,” we say.

Addiction has set in.  More people today feel something is missing in their lives, but they just can’t get a handle on what it is..

Continued challenges show up with the addition of this new drug that has been added to their addiction of processed foods.  Diabetes or some auto-immune disease takes hold….   Years of traveling down this “road of daily neglect,” one challenge leads to the next challenge.  Our sex life deteriorates.  The side effects of the first drug is impacted by the side effects of the second and the third along with contraindications of drugs that are so often missed by the prescribing doctors.  Then we hear those words: “you have cancer” and may only have weeks or months to live.  These words put fear in the hearts of all travelers on this road.

I have witnessed the end of this “well worn road”  occur swiftly with a stroke or heart attack.  While for others – the road is a slow death from the complications of chemo.

So one might ask, “What if the people who were supposed to make you feel better, were actually harming your health instead?”

By their own admission, doctors are the 3rd leading cause of death in the U.S. and is 100% preventable. (1)  “In addition to deaths and injuries, medical errors also cost billions of dollars.  One 2011 study put the figure at $17 billion a year.”(2)  “To make matters worse, direct cancer costs are projected to rise from $104 billion in 2006 to $173 billion in 2020 and beyond, with the highest costs incurred in the last year of life.”(3)

Are you tired of this road, that has been followed so blindly?

What you may need is to get back on your own road to personal health, joy and happiness.

The “Road Less Travelled” has proven to result in a different ending.  The price of purchasing organic foods over a lifetime with support from a health coach will never come close to the staggering cost of a road ending in cancer.  An incredibly expensive, destructive and painful battle for sure!
