Natural Remedies for Muscle Spasms

Too often random and infrequent muscle spasms occur that either are mildly uncomfortable or can cause an instant and severe jolt of pain. These muscle spasms occur because for one, or for multiple, reasons. Those reasons can be from a lack of exercise as well as a lack of specific vitamins and nutrients or from a poor diet altogether. When muscle spasms occur it is important to diagnose what the issue might be and to correct as to help aid in living a normal and pain free life.

Avoiding the “Unnatural”
The first step is to avoid any over the counter pain killers that are engineered to alleviate pain. These pain killers naturally increase the user’s tolerance as well as create a dependency every time pain is felt or occurs. By not resorting to over the counter pain killers a more natural and organic approach can be taken to understanding the body’s coded messages.

Proper Diet
Maintaining a healthy diet will help to reduce and alleviate muscle spasms altogether. More frequently than not muscle spasms occur because the body in some way or another is lacking in essential vitamins and nutrients. Various foods that are high in preservatives and trans fats break down the body’s ability to rejuvenate overtime thus increasing age and causing pain to muscles, joints, and ligaments. As well as these same foods can eventually clog arteries and blood vessels causing much more severe damage. An easy indication that the body might be lacking in essential vitamins and nutrients is easy bruising. When easy bruising occurs Vitamin C is typically low in the body. Foods such as plums, berries, broccoli, bell peppers, and various citrus fruits are all high in Vitamin C and should be consumed.

Topical Herbs
Various herbs can be used as either a topical cream or topical oil on the exterior of the body when muscle spasms occur. Such herbs like Cayenne make a great numbing solution much similar to aspirin if applied directly to the area where painful muscle spasms occur. As well as Camphor Oil numbs the peripheral nerve endings temporarily surrounding the area experiencing muscles spasms. An age old traditional topical cream and/or oil that is also commonly used is Eucalyptus as well as St. John’s Wort which should be applied twice daily to the area of the body experiencing pain.

Consumable Herbs
Believe it or not Green Tea has the ability to alleviate painful muscle spasms when consumed regularly. This is because Green Tea is consistent with polyphenols which is an antioxidant that fights pain alongside the body’s free radicals. The body is limited to its free radicals the more that expire the faster the body ages thus shortening your overall entire lifespan. It is important to properly diet, use topical herbs, and to consume healthy herbs in order to protect and preserve the body’s free radicals for as long as possible. Green Tea has also been found to reduce inflammation caused by fibromyalgia and other musculoskeletal disorders.

Proper Stretching and Exercise
And finally it is important to regularly exercise if not daily than at least weekly. Doing so will naturally maintain the body’s ability to circulate blood and get a chance for a thorough stretch throughout all of the muscle fibers. If pain occurs, than be sure to do a light stretching in order to alleviate the area that is experiencing muscle spasms. A light stretching will help send blood to the area of the body that is experiencing pain. Regular stretching will help to alleviate the body’s pain as well as protect the body from future pain.
