Frustration must be my middle name. Failing to get our Hawaii genetically modified politicians to do something about GMOs and Roundup, I figured that our Attorney General would do something. So, I wrote him a letter and sent him all sorts of stuff.
In keeping with the adage that “one picture is worth a thousand words”, I will let you see for your self. Here is the first letter:
September 28, 2011
Office Of The Attorney General
425 Queen Street
Honolulu, Hi 967813
Gentlemen:
We have a very serious problem affecting the health and well being of all Hawaii residents. The Hawaii Department of Agriculture, headed by Russell Kokobun, is knowingly and willfully in violation of Hawaii’s Pesticide law.
Monsanto has known since the 1980s and the Federal Regulators since the 1990s that the glyphosate in Monsanto’s pesticide Roundup causes birth defects, embryonic deaths, lung, kidney and heart failure, skeletal malformations, craniofacial, mouth and eye deformities, endocrine disruptions, irreversible damage to liver cells, human cell death, DNA damage, cancer, and neurotoxic effects at ANY level of exposure.
This information was given to Governor Abercrombie, who, by the way, accepted $1,000.00 from Monsanto, to Russell Kokobun, who accepted $20,000.00 from Monsanto, and the following politicians that accepted funds from Monsanto and all chose to do nothing:
House Speaker Calvin Say, $1,000.
House Health Committee Member Rep Ryan Yamane, $1,300.
Senate Ag Committee Chair Clarence Nishihara, $750.
House Consumer Protection and Commerce Committee Chair Bob Herkes, $1,550.
Senate Health Committee Member Josh Green, $500.
House Environmental Protection Committee Member Jerry Chang, $1,000.
House Ag Committee Member Cliff Tsuji, a total of $21,000 from Monsanto, Syngenta and DuPont.
Last but not least, Mufi Hanneman, now going to run for a Senate seat in DC, $1,000.
The dangers of the glyphosate put our keikis (kids), our government employees, our teachers, all citizens that frequent the parks, and the golfers that use our golf courses, at severe health risk.
We are therefore calling for a moratorium on the use of Roundup statewide until a thorough independent test and evaluation can be done on the adverse effects to human health and the environment.
Included in this report are the following:
The Huffington Post article, “Roundup: Birth Defects Caused By World’s Top-Selling Weed killer, Scientists Say”.
Letter To Tom Matsuda at the Dep’t of Agriculture
UH Professor Hector Valenzuela’s report of the original suppressed scientific report available at
http://www.scribd.com/doc/57277946/Roundupand BirthDefectsv5.
Professor Valenzuela’s report on “Alternatives to the use of Roundup Herbicide”.
The article, “Monsanto’s Roundup May End Bananas – And They’re Merely the Canary in the Mine”.
The article, “EU Regulators and Monsanto Exposed for Hiding Glyphosate Toxicity”.
All this information has been ignored by the Governor, the Legislators and the Dep’t of Agriculture despite them knowing full well that the glyphosate in Monsanto’s pesticide Roundup causes irreversible, damaging health problems.
And now that we, the People of Hawaii, have been shut down by our Governor, our elected officials and our Governor appointed Department of Agriculture Head all because money is more important to them than integrity, we have nowhere else to go but to you.
Please take action by calling for a moratorium on Roundup usage until a through independent investigation on glyphosate can be done. In the past, all so-called “independent” testing has been done by Monsanto’s scientists.
Aloha!

So, awaiting their response I received the following:
“Mr. Hesh Goldstein
POB 240783
Honolulu, Hawaii 96824-0783
Dear Mr. Goldstein:
SUBJECT: Moratorium on Use of Roundup
Thank you for your letter received September 20, 2111 and your follow-up letter dated September 30, 2011, urging this office to support a statewide moratorium on the use of Roundup, an herbicide that contains glyphosate. We appreciate your concerns. However, it is the duty of the Attorney General’s office to assist state agency clients in enforcement of the law. My client, the Hawaii department of Agriculture disagrees with your interpretation of the Hawaii Pesticide Law, which reflects federal law in many respects. We therefore decline to take the action you have advocated. If you believe that the law should be changed in this regard, we suggest that you contact your legislator.
Very truly yours,
Haunani Burns
Deputy Attorney General”
Well, it has taken me all this time to recover from the shock of this letter, which indicates that our Attorney General is genetically modified as well. But, being from Newark and never being one to back down from a fight, I sent the following response:
November 1, 2011
Haunani Burns
Deputy Attorney General
425 Queen Street
Honolulu, Hi 96813
Dear Haunani:
I received your letter of October 17, 2011 and it has taken me this long to get over the shock of it. You have in your possession the link to the 52 page report compiled by eight noted and respected research scholars and professors with 359 references indicating the adverse health effects of Roundup’s glyphosate.
Yet, “ to assist state agency clients in enforcement of the law”, you accept the undocumented and unscientific word of the Head of the Hawaii Department of Agriculture, Russell Kokobun, when he says glyphosate is not in violation of the Hawaii Pesticide Law.
Was that just his word or did he offer any scientific documentation to back up his statement? If he offered scientific documentation, as any credible person would do, would you please send me the reports he referred to? My assumption is that the reports would be independent and not prepared by Monsanto’s scientists.
There is some very relevant information you should be aware of. Last August, a federal judge admonished the USDA for approving genetically modified seeds without first doing the required environmental impact study. Now, the USDA has a solution – allow the biotech industry to conduct their own studies. What this means is that Monsanto and other biotech companies will decide whether to approve their own products.
In the case brought last August by environmentalists and the Center for Food Safety, Federal judge Jeffrey White ruled that the USDA violated the National Environmental Policy Act in deregulating Monsanto’s Roundup Ready sugar beet seeds in 2005 and banned planting of the crop until the environmental impact study was complete. The USDA ignored the ban and ignored White’s subsequent order to destroy the crops once they had been planted.
The USDA ignored the directives because it worried that a GMO sugar beet ban would cause sweetener prices to rise. So basically, the USDA places the food industry’s right to cheap sweetener for its junk food over the dictates of a federal court.
Also, heavy applications of Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide on its other herbicide-resistant GM crops like corn, soy and cotton have created the increasing problem of herbicide-resistant “superweeds”. And, according to a Grist article (http://bit.ly/9unbhp), farmers had to abandon thousands of acres in the South due to new strains of giant pigweed. The article also indicated that glyphosate was much more harmful to the environment than previously thought.
Part of the reasoning for the USDA allowing the biotech industry to do its own biased studies is that a draft environmental assessment can cost anywhere from $60,000.00 to $1 million. So, by the companies doing their own studies they would save money and speed up their process.
So, my question to you is this: do you really believe that Mr. Kokobun, whose only note of significance was to accept $20,000.00 from Monsanto when he was campaigning as a Senator, and who definitely would not want to bite the hand that fed him, could be anywhere close to being objective in his comments to you? This is tantamount to BP writing an assessment of an offshore drilling operation.
So again, please send me the independent sources of Mr. Kokobun’s remarks about glyphosate being safe to the environment and to human health and not in violation of the Hawaii Pesticide Law. This is not the time to be complicit in a client’s fraud and travesty against the people and the environment.
Aloha!

Personally, I have little faith in our Attorney General’s office or any of our bought and paid for politicians. Coming up in a few months there will be a bill presented regarding the labeling of GMOs. Unfortunately, the bill will be heard by two committees. One committee is headed by a Senator that despises Monsanto and vice versa. The second committee is headed by Senator Clarence Nishihara who sold his soul for $750.00
In the hearing, I plan to bring that fact up and ask Senator Nishihara if his acceptance of $750.00 from Monsanto will affect his objectivity in the hearing of the bill? And if so, would he recues himself.
Having a very valuable crystal ball, I am sure that Senator Nishihara will not only assert his “objectivity”, making it so he will not recues himself, but he will kill the bill in the blink of an eye.
The solution to overcoming government tyranny is not through government but through the people revolting against all the injustices thrust upon us by the very people that took an oath to “have our backs”. Mike Adams put it so beautifully and succinctly in his article, “The second American revolution has begun”.
People, do not remain idle. Your words , your protests, and your efforts will get their attention. In time, we will prevail!
Aloha!

See you on the radio!
In 2007, I was “forced” to get a masters degree in Nutrition to stop all the doctors from calling in asking what my credentials were. Besides that, they never liked it when I asked them what their credentials were that would enable them to treat an illness without drugs or surgery.
If you go to www.healthtalkhawaii.com and click on Podcasts and Articles, there are years of shows there as well as hundreds of health related articles that are completely free to listen to and read.
I am an activist. I am vehemently opposed to GMOs, vaccines, processed foods, MSG, aspartame, fluoridation, and everything else that the “pimps” (big pHarma, Monsanto, and the large food companies), and the “hookers” (the doctors, the government agencies, the Public Health officials, and the mainstream media) thrust upon us, the “tricks”.
At 76, I am in 3 softball leagues, racewalk, do stand-up paddling, hike, swim, do weights and cardio, and teach women’s self-defense classes based upon 20 years of Wing Chun training. I have been a vegetarian since 1975 and a vegan since 1990, have no illnesses and take no meds.
After being vaccinated with the DTP vaccine as a child, I developed asthma, which plagued me until 2008 when I learned about and started taking the organic sulfur crystals. My asthma was reversed in 3 days and has not come back.
So far, 26 cases of autism that we know about have been reversed, as has cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, asthma, osteoarthritis, joint pain, gingivitis, and erectile dysfunction. The sulfur has increased sexual activity, eliminated toxins, heavy metals, radiation, and parasites. It speeds up athletic recovery time, increases blood circulation, reduces inflammation, increases resistance to the “flu”, reduces wrinkles, allergies, PMS, monthly period pain, migraines, nausea, lowering high blood pressure, raising low blood pressure and way more, because the oxygen that the sulfur releases floods and heals the cells in the body.
The sulfur, as proven by the University of Southampton in England, enables the body to produce vitamin B12 and the essential amino acids.
You can find out more about this on my website under Products.
My book, “A Sane Diet For An Insane World”, which has been published, can be viewed and purchased at www.asanediet.com. The book clearly explains why what you eat, for the most part, is designed to keep you in a state of declining health.
I have recently discovered two amazing super foods – Zeal and Shakeology – Zeal contains 30 amazing probiotics, anti-oxidents and more, all designed to build and strengthen the immune system and Shakeology contains 42. What’s great about Shakeology is that it is filling, replaces one meal and keeps you full for hours and helps with weight control and loss. For more info about Shakeology please email me or go to www.beachbodycoach.com/heshgoldstein. The good news about Shakeology is if you are not satisfied after 30 days the company will refund you.
And now I have come across an amazing bee pollen that is so soft it melts in your mouth and has so many benefits. It is rich in vitamin B12 and all B vitamins, proteins, minerals, beneficial fatty acids, carotenoids, bioflavenoids, antioxidants, antihistamines, enzymes, antibiotics, and natural phenylalanine, which acts as an appetite suppressant, and more.
My daily regimen consists of one teaspoon of the crystals twice a day, one scoop of the Zeal in cold water, one packet of Shakeology either in 8 to 12 ounces of water or added to my smoothie and a heaping tablespoon of bee pollen. For more about Shakeology please go to www.beachbodycoach.com/heshgoldstein.
