The skin is usually plagued by a lot of anomalies. Most of these are as a result of the accumulation of dirt and germs on either the top or inner layers of the skin. One of the affliction is Whiteheads. This is one of the less severe types of acne that affect the human skin. It should however not be taken lightly at any point as whiteheads can cause a lot of irritation and discomfort when left untreated.

Causes of Whiteheads

The main cause of whiteheads is the blockage of the pores as a result of the secretion of excess sebum. The blockage of the skin provides an amicable breeding ground for various bacteria that replicate within the skin causing harm to the skin cells nearby them. Since the pores close, the bacteria can replicate freely without any noticeable change in the skin color.

Some other causes of whited include poor dieting practice, the hormonal changes in the body especially in young adults going through puberty, and generally poor hygiene. Despite the causes, there are some home remedies that can help with the condition returning the skin to an original healthy state.

Home Remedies for WhiteHeads

Lemon Juice

Lemons are a rich source of vitamin C which proves beneficial in the restoration of damaged skin cells. They are also a mild antiseptic and thus, help to rid the skin of harmful bacteria. The lemons promote the flow of blood through the skin helping to rid it of the excess oil and sebum through sweating. This remedy works best only if fresh lemons are used. Cut the lemon into two and squeeze the juice onto your palm. Apply this on the affected areas then let it stay for about thirty minutes. Wash the skin off with some warm water. You can also blend the lemons to extract the juice then use this to scrub the skin.

Oatmeal

This is one of the best skin exfoliation agents and it works wonders when used properly. To take advantage of his home remedy, simply grind the oatmeal into a fine powder. Put the powder in a bowl and add some plain yogurt. Stir them till a fine paste is formed then apply it to the areas affected by the whiteheads. Let it stay on the skin for twenty minutes then wash it off with some water. Oatmeal is a good choice since it will remove all the foreign particles and dry up the excess oil. It is quite beneficial to use this remedy twice each week. Oatmeal also serves the purpose of ridding the skin of the bacteria that were breeding inside it in the first place.

Apple Cider Vinegar

This is one of the simplest remedies to go with. All you need to mix some water and apple cider vinegar in equal proportions. Apply the solution to the skin then let it sit for about twenty minutes. Wash this off with some warm water. The other alternative is to drink a liter or two of the solution daily. The apple cider vinegar will detoxify the blood and rid it of the germs from within essentially preventing the development of more whiteheads.

Strawberries

This is one of the least known home remedies for whiteheads. When it comes to fighting all manner of acne, especially whiteheads, strawberries prove quite useful thanks to the salicylic acid with them. This helps them to exfoliate the skin and remove all manner of dirt and debris that collect on it. They also kill some of the bacteria that cause whiteheads. The remedy is simple to prepare. Make a paste using a few strawberries by mashing them up in a clean bowl. Add some honey to the paste then apply it on the skin where the whiteheads are rampant. Let the solution stay on the skin for about fifteen minutes so that the acid can serve its purpose.  Wash it off with some cold water. This procedure can be done twice weekly till the whiteheads disappear.

For best results with any of the above home remedies, it is usually good to steam the skin first. This helps to expose the closed pores as the skin expands. This makes it easier for the remedies to act on the pores and the bacteria within the skin.

 Good practices

Prevention has always been better than the cure. This is why it is only fit that I include a few practices you can observe to prevent the development of whiteheads on your body.

Bodily Hygiene

Hygiene of the human body is a fundamental principle that all should consider subscribing to. This is because a good shower will help to wash away the excess oil produced while at the same time removing the dirt that has collected on the skin. Two to three showers a day is highly advised. You should also apply a natural soap cleanser to the skin from time to time to maintain its flawless state.

Choice of makeup

Makeup is something that helps the skin look better, especially the face. But it sometimes comes at the cost of the health of that skin. it is best to keep away from oil based makeup that causes blockage of the pores when not handled properly. The best alternative is to go with water-based makeup that is easy to manage. The hair should also be kept away from the face especially on warm days. This is because it promotes the production of sweat and excess oil with the latter being the main cause of whiteheads.

Dietary considerations

To keep the skin flawless, it is best to eat foods that are rich in vitamins and proteins. These form the building block of new skin cells. Avoid foods with processed sugar, high sodium and a lot of oils. These tend to be excreted by the skin and if they are in excess then they end up blocking the skin pores.

Hydration

The skin is the largest organ in the body, and this means it takes up quite a collection of the foreign particles in the body. Taking the recommended eight glasses of water helps to not only detoxify but also to boost its elasticity. Proper hydration helps one maintain healthy, good looking skin that is devoid of whiteheads

Avoid Smoking

Smoking is not just bad for the internal organs but other organs like the skin as well. The concentration of nicotine and other constituents of cigarettes in the blood accelerate the rate of bacteria development in the skin. avoid smoking can cut down the risks of developing whiteheads by up to 70%.

General Skincare

Most people forget to take care of their skin. Simple bathing and hydration practices alone do not keep this type of acne away. It is thus relevant to perfect your skincare practices. One of the ways to do this is through regular exfoliation. this will help rid the skin of dead cells and debris that collect on it. Steaming is also important as it helps to kill the germs that collect on the skin. Doing both of these on a weekly schedule should prevent the development of whiteheads.
