Do Your Brain a Favor and Ditch GMOs

Maintaining a healthy mind requires more than just staying mentally stimulated and keeping emotions in a state of balance. The foods we eat play a crucial role in brain function and in turn, our mental health. One step you can immediately take to help preserve mental clarity and wellness is avoiding genetically modified foods.

Scientific studies from around the world implicate GM foods as downright destructive to the brain.

Here are a few examples:

  • Researchers at Cairo University’s Faculty of Veterinary Hygiene noted a significant decline in brain function in rats consuming a diet of just 10% genetically engineered foods. The study’s lead author stated in an interview with the Egypt Independent that “the rats’ learning and memory abilities were seriously altered” as a result of eating GM corn, tomatoes and other foods.

  • The world-renowned biologist Dr. Arpad Pusztai found that the brain size of rats decreased substantially after only 10 days of being fed a diet of GM potatoes.

  • A study carried out by Italian scientists found that consuming GM corn provoked an immune response in mice that is associated with Lou Gehrig’s disease, an illness in which the brain’s motor neurons deteriorate.

  • A 2011 report appearing in Scientific American highlighted research demonstrating that genetic material in foods actually survives digestion, enters the bloodstream and influences gene expression in humans. This has sparked serious concern over the potential for GM foods to impair cell function and promote conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and cancer.

  • In a recent interview with Dr. Stephanie Seneff of MIT, Jeffrey Smith discusses the emerging body of research indicating that eating Roundup-sprayed GM crops causes major biochemical imbalances that can lead to depression, irritability and violent behavior. Smith’s organization, The Institute for Responsible Technology, has collected accounts from veterinarians and farmers who observed that pigs raised on GM corn displayed antisocial and even cannibalistic tendencies.

All the crossword puzzles and meditation in the world can’t undo the neurological harm inflicted by a poor diet. Our wellbeing is just too important to risk by participating in a dangerous science experiment carried out by corporate profiteers. It’s time to ditch GMOs for good and begin eating mindfully for a healthy mind.
