Blueberries a powerful superfood. Blueberries have many health benefits. These little blue colored berries have so much to offer us in nutritional value but at the same time are a delicious fruit that can add elegance to your meal. They are great for a healthy snack for the kids too. There are so many ways you can add this tempting fruit to your families diet that can keep you on the road to living a healthy and green lifestyle such as a blueberry smoothie recipe.

Most blueberries are grown in North America and are harvested in the midsummer months mostly July, which is known as National Blueberry Month. What makes blueberries so nutritious and a powerhouse of health is their blue deep to purple color that contains a group of flavonoids called anthocyanins that have amazing antioxidants abilities.

Make sure when you are using blueberries that they are either wild grown or organically grown and not polluted with toxic pesticides.

This is one of my favorite smoothie recipes. Try it and I promise you wouldn’t be disappointed how delicious and refreshing it is.

Blueberry Smoothie:

  • frozen banana, thawed for 10 to 15 minutes .
  • 2 Tablespoons raw organic coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup raw milk
  • 1 cup raw yogurt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons organic hemp seed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons raw honey
  • 2/3 cup wild frozen or fresh organic blueberries

Directions: Cut banana into small pieces and place into the bowl of a blender or a small food processor. Add the raw milk, raw yogurt, hemp seed, raw organic coconut oil and raw honey.  If using a blender, on lowest speed until smooth, about 5 seconds. Gradually add the blueberries while continuing to blend on low. After you have added all the blueberries, increase the speed and blend to smooth or desired consistency.  You can even add some blueberries on the top or a slice of a banana. Another great hit for kids is putting them in the freezer for about 1 hour and they will love it as much as ice cream. Makes about 2 cups.

Now you and your whole family can enjoy this refreshing drink and reap the many health benefits.

You can use blueberries to your family’s diet in so many ways. Add fresh organic blueberries to the kids cereal in the morning, make them a refreshing healthy smoothie for lunch or snack, and for dinner use them to make a delicious but healthy dessert that the family can enjoy. Try organic dried blueberries for the kids lunch boxes. It’s so important that we teach our children healthy eating habits so that they continue these habits throughout their lives. Give them the best chance you can to thrive in a world that is filled with so much pollution and toxicity so that they can continue the legacy of health and well-being physically and spiritually to all future generations.
