The Best Fruits You Can Eat to Combat Cancer

Despite many medical advances in this past century, cancer remains a leading killer not only in the United States but around the globe. Treatment still revolves largely around conventional therapies such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy – all of which come with risks and/or unwanted side effects. No wonder it is such a worry for people who are concerned about their health!

However, there are ways to help lower the risk for cancer naturally – and one of these ways appears to be eating certain fruits. Below, some of the best-performing fruits for this are discussed, along with recommendations as to how to add more of them to the daily diet.

Grapefruits and Bananas

Several studies have shown that regular growth consumption of grapefruits and bananas can reduce cancer rates by around 10%. It is believed that this is likely to do the high amounts of Vitamin C in both fruits: Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant which can reduce oxidative stress in the cells and prevent DNA changes in the cells that can eventually lead to cancer. Also, both fruits are high in fiber, which has been shown to prevent certain forms of cancer such as cancer of the colon. Simply slicing a grapefruit in half and adding it to the breakfast plate or slicing a banana into the morning bowl of cereal is a great way to add to overall consumption of these fruits.

Apples, Red Grapes and Strawberries

Adding regular servings of fruits like apples, red grapes and strawberries to the diet can help reduce cancer rates by a whopping 40%! This is likely due to the anthocyanins: they are the compounds which give these fruits their red color and have a long track record of cancer-fighting properties. Red grapes, too, are a rich source of resveratrol, a compound much-studied for its anti-carcinogenic abilities. All three of these fruits are also high in fiber. Apples can be diced and easily added to a morning bowl of oatmeal (also good for health!) and red grapes and strawberries can be simply added to the lunch or dinner plate on the side to increase consumption.

Lemons and Cranberries

These two fruits rank at the top of the list when it comes to fighting cancer! Regular consumption of these fruits or their juices can help reduce cancer rates by around 50%. It is believed that this is partly because of the high amounts of Vitamin C found in both fruits, but also the citric acid and other active compounds in the lemons and the high levels of anthocyanins and other strong antioxidants in the cranberries. Squeezing fresh lemon juice into water and drinking that or enjoying a spritzer made with organic, unsweetened pure cranberry juice are easy ways to work these fruits into the diet.

It is really quite simple, following this tips, to add more fruit to the diet. And these fruits in particular are not only delicious, they have the added benefits of lowering cancer risk and improving the body’s overall health.
