Believe it or not alternatives for mouthwash and toothpaste are available and are extremely popular.

Millions of dollars are spent every year by toothpaste companies on advertisements and marketing campaigns in order to create more revenue through specific target markets. In spite of these efforts however, traditional forms of mouthwash and toothpaste still remains popular. This is because over time money can be saved from using alternative forms of mouthwash and toothpaste instead of having to purchase more every few weeks at the store. Also, traditional mouthwash and toothpaste has been proven to be quite effective in the fight against bad breath, gingivitis, and even plaque.

Mouthwash Alternatives

One of the first mouthwash alternatives worth mentioning is a simple solution that involves just hydrogen peroxide and water. Simply take a small amount of hydrogen peroxide, such as 1 to 2 caps full, and mix it with a small amount of water. Swish the hydrogen peroxide and water mixture for roughly 30 to 60 seconds than spit and rinse with water. Hydrogen peroxide is great for preventing gingivitis, pyorrhea, and other various tooth and gum diseases.

Another great alternative for mouthwash is a baking soda and sea salt mixture. Take ¼ teaspoon of baking soda and ¼ teaspoon of sea salt and mix with 2 ounces of water. Swish for 30 to 60 seconds than spit and rinse. The baking soda and sea salt mouthwash alternative is also a great home remedy that helps relieve tooth pain caused by canker sores and teething. Simply mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of sea salt in 4 ounces of water swish for 30 to 60 seconds than spit. Repeat this method up to 4 times a day for the best results.

Essential oils such as Cinnamon Oil, Clove Oil, and Peppermint Oil have natural antibacterial and antimicrobial agents that help eliminate and prevent tooth and gum disease as well as bad breath. Simply take any one of the three before mentioned oils and mix 5 drops in 2 to 4 ounces of water. Swish, spit, and rinse. A combination involving 2 to 3 drops of each essential oil mixed with 4 ounces of water will create an even more effective mouthwash.

Toothpaste Alternatives

Just like mouthwash there are also various natural and organic alternatives for toothpaste. One of the first is simply dry brushing. Brushing without water or toothpaste has long been practiced amongst developing societies and is one of the most common ways of preventing various oral diseases. Another alternative is pure water brushing. Having access to clean water while brushing is also very important for maintaining proper oral hygiene and can surprisingly provide tremendous support for fighting bacteria.

Other alternatives for toothpaste include brushing with hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, saltwater, and natural soap. Hydrogen peroxide is great for fighting germs due to its antibacterial properties and can be easily mixed with water and absorbed to the bristles on a toothbrush. Baking soda can also be easily applied to a toothbrush as well as a baking soda and sea salt water mixture will create an extremely effective toothpaste alternative. Various natural and organic soaps can also be used as a toothpaste alternative because of their antibacterial properties. However, due to the bad taste of most soap tooth soap can be purchased specifically as a toothpaste alternative.

Various tooth powders can also be purchased as an alternative to toothpaste. Tooth powders have been around for an extremely long time and are most commonly used amongst individuals with mild to extreme cases of gum swelling and soreness. Tooth powders are easily storable and can last much longer than a single tube of toothpaste.
