American’s are obsessed with eating right and being healthy.  They also have one of the worst all-around diets: many American foods are processed, sugar-filled confections that not only promote weight gain, but are detrimental to their health.

The Alkaline Diet can change all that.  Although it sounds like all the other current fad diets, it’s not.  It does promote weight loss but that is not its sole purpose.   It’s actually meant to be used as a tool to improve overall health and fight certain diseases, like arthritis and cancer by eating alkaline foods.

How Does It Work?

The main premise of the diet is that certain foods can cut down the acid the body produces or ingests and make it more alkaline, leading to better health and weight loss by balancing the body’s PH levels.  When an individual eats too many acid-based foods it does not get the nutrients needed to keep the body’s slightly alkaline state. To maintain this balance, the body will use bones or other vital tissues, leading to an inability to heal itself and detoxify, making a person susceptible to fatigue and illness.  So consumers must cut out processed, pre-packaged foods, as well as meats, cheese, dairy, eggs and grain and replace them with any or all of the proven alkaline foods, which are mainly fruits and vegetables.

5-Cruciferous Vegetables– These are some of the most popular vegetables, like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and brussel sprouts.  They are highly satisfying and cut own high levels of acid due to their high water content.

6-Lemons-Lemons are tops out of all the alkaline foods.  They are a natural disinfectant, help to boost the liver and detoxify the body.  Lemons counter hyperacidity, and virus- based illnesses like coughs, colds and the flu.
