5 Natural Steps to Prevent Cancer

Include Algae and Sea Vegetables

While including algae and sea vegetables in the diet has never caught on in the West, in the East these have been used as dietary staples for literally thousands of years. Rich in chlorophyll, iodine and other important nutrients, these latecomers to the Western diet are another great way to, among other things, alkalize the body’s pH and make it more unfriendly to cancer cells.

Follow a Low Glycemic Index Diet

Eating foods that do not spike up the blood sugar but allow it to rise gentle and gradually after eating a meal is another great way to prevent cancer from occurring; diets rich in quick carbohydrates, on the other hand, increase inflammation throughout the body and gives cancer cells the energy they need to take root and proliferate.

Avoid Unhealthy Fats

Avoiding saturated fats and trans fats (i.e., hydrogenated oils) is also a great step to take if the aim is to prevent cancer from developing. These fats can lead to weight gain (a risk factor for certain forms of cancer) and can prevent the absorption of important enzymes, one of the body’s natural defenses against cancer. Choose healthy fats like those from olive oil or avocadoes instead.

Detoxify

Regular detoxification to remove toxins, impurities and other unwanted substances from the body may be a relatively new thing in the West but in the East, Ayurvedic and other traditions have promoted it going back to ancient times. Detoxifying removes many substances from the body, included known or suspected carcinogens like heavy metals and pesticide residues and it another great way to prevent cancer development.

The guidelines above are pretty simple to follow and do not require any radical changes in lifestyle unless someone is in the habit of living off of processed foods and needs to alter their eating habits. These steps can, however, all prove useful in preventing cancer from taking root and spreading to begin with, and medical experts from all over the world can agree that this is, by far, the best way to treat this serious disease.
